Auralquiz v0.8.1, a bugfix release

April 12, 2012

I’ve just uploaded Auralquiz 0.8.1, a bugfix release.

Changes since v0.8:

– Fixed compilation for GCC 4.7 (fixes this Debian bug). Thanks to Dean Evans for letting me know.
– Added French translation, thanks to ntome.
– Added Italian translation, thanks to Giovanni.

As always, you can get it from Qt-apps, here:

If you have the development version, you already have these fixes applied.

Dianara’s progress

February 8, 2012

With Auralquiz 0.8 out the door, I’ve now turned my attention back to Dianara, my Diaspora app, for a while.

There’s a lot more API available now, so Dianara can fetch the first page (15 posts) of your public timeline, and display it.

A picture is worth more than a thousand words, they say:

Dianara, a Diaspora app, rendering some Markdown

Colors are just my system configuration :)

There is some basic Markdown rendering (bold, italic, and headers), and basic information about the post: Author, creation time, number of likes, number of comments, and, if it’s a reshare, the name of the original post’s author.

There is no OAuth authentication yet, so it is not possible to see your stream, aspects, contacts… well, anything not public.
In the Account dialog, the “access token” field can be filled with anything, it’s not used at this time. But hopefully soon!

Dianara, a Diaspora client

January 9, 2012

I’ve started developing a new program.
This time it’s a Diaspora client, an application for GNU/linux that will allow users to manage their Diaspora accounts without the need to use a web browser.

September 2013 update: Dianara has been turned into a client for the pump.io social network, a powerful system that can be considered an evolution of StatusNet, which includes identi.ca and many other servers. Read more about current Dianara status here: https://jancoding.wordpress.com/dianara/

Dianara, an application to use the Diaspora social network

At the moment, it’s basically an empty shell. The only thing you can do, is enter your Diaspora ID (username@podname) and password, and see how your avatar and full name are fetched from your account information.

Diaspora‘s API is not ready to use yet, so there’s not much that can be done at the moment. Meanwhile, I’ll keep improving the interface, and the little network control there is now.

The code is, as usual, in Gitorious, at http://gitorious.org/dianara

It is, like my other projects, based on Qt, and as an aditional dependency, QJSON. It also supports FreeDesktop.org notifications, so you get nice notifications in KDE Plasma Desktop, Gnome, XFCE and other environments which support that specification.

Auralquiz v0.7 released!

December 29, 2011

Changes since v0.6 include:

- Translation files are included in the binary as resources and loaded correctly.
– Metadata analysis is faster, performed using TagLib, which is a new dependency.
– Sound control now relies on Phonon States, works better with all backends.
Hardcore difficulty level now uses the “Type-the-answer” mode.
– “Reload music” button, to use when there are new files or some have been moved/deleted.
– Several visual changes.

You can get it from Qt-apps, here:

Uh… Auralquiz 0.6 released

August 10, 2011

Just a little over 10 days after v0.5, here comes Auralquiz 0.6!

A bug was discovered in 0.5 which caused a crash during analysis of the music files in the user’s folders, if there were many files without valid metadata (no artist and/or title fields).
This has been fixed, among other things, and also a few small improvements.

Auralquiz main menu

After selecting “Start game”, the main game options appear: difficulty level, amount of questions, amount of players, and their names.

And as always, feedback is welcome!

*UPDATE: Packages for Mandriva available here, thanks to Symbianflo.

Plasmoid: Praedic

September 22, 2010

Presenting my first plasmoid: Praedic.

The Praedic Plasmoid

It’s a very simple dictionary targeted at spanish users, or people learning spanish.

It searches the RAE online dictionary, which is the official spanish dictionary (Real Academia Española).

You can get it from kde-look.org, or directly via Plasma’s option “Download New Plasma Widgets

http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=129421

Usage is very straightforward: Enter a single word and hit enter or press the “Buscar en RAE” (search in RAE) button. There’s a slider on the right side to control the size of the text.

Feedback is welcome! :)
