One Dianara v1.2.5 coming up!

December 16, 2014

Hi! As planned, here’s a new release of Dianara for the end of the year.

dianara-v1.2.5-release-main

Some of the main new features are the new Mentions and Actions feeds, which are basically the same as the Meanwhile feed, but with only activities addressed to you, and only activities done by you. Then, the expandable labels. Some of the information labels such as the “10 minutes ago” or “7 likes” in posts will expand when clicked, to show extra information. Some parts of that extra information was available previously in tooltips, but now that extra information might contain clickable links, too, such as user names.

Also, the way of showing when a post got to your timeline via sharing is clearer and more informative, and pasting a link that looks like it’s pointing to an image will ask if you wish to insert it as a regular link or as a visible image.

Changes

Main changes since v1.2.4:

  • Mentions and Actions feeds. Access them via keyboard with Control+1/2/3 (keyboard shortcut to reload Meanwhile feed has been changed to F2).
  • Made some of the labels expandable; they will show extra information when clicked.
  • Offer to insert links to image files as embedded images, when pasting.
  • Very long post titles will be cut when posting.
  • Shared posts now show sharer’s information in a wide line at the top.
  • Show warning when posting only to Followers, but having none.
  • Added new configuration categories, and rearranged some options.
  • Added option to show post client information directly.
  • Option to insert basic tables in messages.
  • Avatar menus now sync their Follow/Unfollow option based on global contact list changes.
  • Added more fallback icons.
  • Added Control+Enter shortcut for the “Done” button when selecting specific recipients for a message.
  • Enhancements in the experimental group support.
  • Added a few changes to support GNU Mediagoblin‘s upcoming Pump.io API. You’ll be able to use Dianara to post to Mediagoblin sites once its 0.8.0 version is out.
  • Added links to the Pump.io User Guide (https://github.com/e14n/pump.io/wiki/User-Guide).
  • Fixed #4: some memory leaks, thanks to a patch by Gregor Herrmann.
  • Fixed wrong order in list of likes in posts.
  • Fixed extra spaces inserted when creating links in the middle of some existing text.
  • Other small fixes.

Dianara 1.2.5 is available in English, Catalan, Spanish, Italian and German languages. There’s a partial Polish translation included.

More translators would be welcome to translate it to more languages, of course 😉

Get it

Dianara is available in the repositories of several GNU/linux distributions. At this time, at least Debian Testing/Sid, Mageia 4 and later, Chakra, Ubuntu 13.10 and later, KaosX and openSuse 13.2 and later. Thanks to all the great packagers who make this possible! 😉

You can find Fedora packages at HowCanUHaveMyUsername’s repo.

For Archlinux, you can find Dianara on the AUR, and for Gentoo, you can use the ebuild.

As for other platforms, LuisGF, a fellow pumper, provides builds of Dianara for MSwindows and is working on builds for OSX.

You can get the code from Qt-apps.org: http://qt-apps.org/content/show.php/Dianara?content=148103.

If you need or wish to build from source, check the INSTALL file for details on how to build it and the necessary dependencies.

Cheers!

Revisit your past: Dianara v1.2.4 is out!

October 20, 2014

Another almost-monthly release.

dianara-v1.2.4-release-main

The main new features are the page selector, which you can use to jump to any page in your timeline (you can go to your first post directly, for instance), and the (optional) snippets in the Meanwhile feed. By default, snippets for the activities will be shown when the activity is highlighted, except if the activity is yours. This mostly means you’ll be able to see a part of a comment to one of your posts, or a comment matching one of your highlighting filters, for instance, directly on the side panel.

dianara-v1.2.4-release-jump

Changes

Main changes since v1.2.3:

  • Optional snippets in the Meanwhile feed, with configurable character limit.
  • Clicking the button that shows the page number at the bottom of a timeline (or pressing Control+G) will open a window to jump to any page.
  • Menu option to enable/disable timeline auto-updating.
  • New status bar icon indicates initialization stage and state of auto-updates. Clicking it will also toggle the state of auto-updates.
  • Tray icon shows how many of the new messages are also highlighted.
  • Names of recipients are shown as links in the Publisher, so hovering over them will show their addresses in the status bar.
  • More logging, specifically during initial client registration and the authorization token process.
  • Settings dialog switched from tabs to stacked view, to have more categories in the future.
  • Added a TRANSLATING file, with instructions for new translators.
  • Fixed quoting texts containing “<” and “>”.
  • Fixed long shutdown time.
  • Other small visual changes and fixes.

Dianara 1.2.4 is available in English, Catalan, Spanish and Italian languages. Partial German and Polish translations are included.

More translators would be welcome to translate it to more languages, of course 😉

Dianara v1.2.3 released! Yes, that’s a real version number.

September 6, 2014

Once again, another small release of this pump.io client.

dianara-v1.2.3-fonts-fun

The most notable new features are font configuration, the option to send direct messages to people from the avatar menus, and the button to open ‘parent’ posts. You’ll see the ‘Parent’ button if a post in your timeline is actually a reply to something else. This can happen if someone shares a comment, for instance.

dianara-v1.2.3-direct-message

Changes

Most of the changes since v1.2.2:

  • Configurable fonts.
  • Ability to open the parent post for posts in the timelines, if they were replies to something, such as a shared comment appearing in the timeline.
  • Option to send a message to a contact directly from the avatar menu and from the contact list.
  • Show your user ID in popup notifications. Useful if you run more than one instance of Dianara for different accounts.
  • Show total number of items in timelines, in the tooltips of their tabs, and the total number of pages with the current page number, at the bottom.
  • Show how many Meanwhile items are highlighted, among those that are new.
  • Some settings in Configure dialog have been rearranged.
  • Filter comparison for “Activity description” removes links from it, allowing for simpler rules.
  • More details about post location, in the tooltip of the location name.
  • Fixed Meanwhile feed growing very wide sometimes.
  • Fixed Edit button not working on posts opened in separate window.
  • Other bug fixes and minor changes.

Dianara 1.2.3 is available in English, Catalan, Spanish and Italian languages. Partial German and Polish translations are included.

More translators would be welcome to translate it to more languages, of course 😉

Dianara v1.2.2 is out!

July 31, 2014

This was supposed to be another small release, but it took longer than expected. The main new feature is proxy support, but it also comes with a bunch of little fixes and improvements.

dianara-v1.2.2-release-proxysettings

Other interesting changes include case insensitive filters, animated image support in the image viewer, a basic help window and a better initialization process, so Dianara will try to get your profile, contacts and timelines on startup several times, if it fails due to network or server errors.

Packagers should note that the manpage has been moved to section 1, as suggested in a bug report, which makes more sense.

Changes

Most of the changes since v1.2.1:

  • Proxy configuration support. Password is not stored securely, so if you wish, you can leave it empty and be prompted for it on startup.
  • Animated images are now animated when viewed in the separate image viewer.
  • Filters are now case insensitive, ie. “openfarmgame” matches “OpenFarmGame”.
  • Added a delay before reloading all comments after posting a reply.
  • Enhanced initialization, so Dianara will keep on trying to get all initial data (your profile, etc) if it fails initially.
  • Basic Help window.
  • Configurable “unread post” color.
  • Show To/CC info in the timestamp tooltip of minor feed activities.
  • The Normalize Text Colors option in posts works in most cases now.
  • Link color is no longer specified, so other contacts will see links in the color configured by them.
  • New way to show attachments, including attached images.
  • Better filename suggestions when saving attachments.
  • Option to create bullet lists in the Format menu.
  • More symbols in the Format > Symbols menu.
  • Ask for confirmation when quitting Dianara if a post is being composed.
  • Pressing Enter in title field jumps to message body. Likewise, pressing the Up Arrow at the start of the message jumps to the title field.
  • Better notification of authentication-related errors.
  • Added some more fallback icons, for environments without (good) iconsets.
  • Updated Italian translation, by Metal Biker.
  • Partial updates to Polish translation by Derping Muffins and CyberKiller, and German translation by Emvigo.

Dianara 1.2.2 is available in English, Catalan, Spanish and Italian languages. Partial German and Polish translations are included.

Translators would of course be welcome to translate it to more languages 😉

Revised v0.1 is out!

July 21, 2012

A week ago I blogged about a new project, Revised, which will eventually be a simple visual editor for a visual novel game engine called Ren’Py.

Revised v0.1 featuring Eileen, from Ren’Py!

The project is going well, so I’ve released a 0.1 version as a preview.

Download the source code from Qt-Apps.org: http://qt-apps.org/content/show.php/Revised?content=152369 (sorry, I can’t provide binary packages for any distributions at this time, check the INSTALL file for compiling instructions).

There are still a million things missing, but there are already several things you can do with it:

  • Create new projects, load them, and save them.
  • Keep track of chapters and their “steps” in the chapter list.
  • Manage character definitions to use in the game.
  • Manage image definitions.
  • Design scenes with 3 basic things: Set a background image, add other images, like characters or props and add dialog lines.

After some basic stuff has been added to the game, you can save it and run it in Ren’Py, straight from Revised’s menus.

This is Lucy, from Ren’Py, and she’s mad!

I hope you like it, and if you ever thought about creating novel-type games with Ren’Py, but found that writing scripts was confusing or tiring, maybe this program can help you. The goal is that you’ll need no programming experience to make your simple game.

You can check out the main Revised page on this blog for more information, and the Revised category to see all the posts about it.

Feedback is welcome!

Dianara’s progress

February 8, 2012

With Auralquiz 0.8 out the door, I’ve now turned my attention back to Dianara, my Diaspora app, for a while.

There’s a lot more API available now, so Dianara can fetch the first page (15 posts) of your public timeline, and display it.

A picture is worth more than a thousand words, they say:

Dianara, a Diaspora app, rendering some Markdown

Colors are just my system configuration 🙂

There is some basic Markdown rendering (bold, italic, and headers), and basic information about the post: Author, creation time, number of likes, number of comments, and, if it’s a reshare, the name of the original post’s author.

There is no OAuth authentication yet, so it is not possible to see your stream, aspects, contacts… well, anything not public.
In the Account dialog, the “access token” field can be filled with anything, it’s not used at this time. But hopefully soon!

Dianara, a Diaspora client

January 9, 2012

I’ve started developing a new program.
This time it’s a Diaspora client, an application for GNU/linux that will allow users to manage their Diaspora accounts without the need to use a web browser.

September 2013 update: Dianara has been turned into a client for the pump.io social network, a powerful system that can be considered an evolution of StatusNet, which includes identi.ca and many other servers. Read more about current Dianara status here: https://jancoding.wordpress.com/dianara/

Dianara, an application to use the Diaspora social network

At the moment, it’s basically an empty shell. The only thing you can do, is enter your Diaspora ID (username@podname) and password, and see how your avatar and full name are fetched from your account information.

Diaspora‘s API is not ready to use yet, so there’s not much that can be done at the moment. Meanwhile, I’ll keep improving the interface, and the little network control there is now.

The code is, as usual, in Gitorious, at http://gitorious.org/dianara

It is, like my other projects, based on Qt, and as an aditional dependency, QJSON. It also supports FreeDesktop.org notifications, so you get nice notifications in KDE Plasma Desktop, Gnome, XFCE and other environments which support that specification.
