Call for testing and translations for Dianara 1.4.0

September 20, 2017

I’ll be releasing Dianara 1.4.0 Soon™, so if you use it, it’s a good time to put the development version to the test.

If you maintain a translation, it’s also a good time to update it. There are no more string changes planned between now and the release =)

If Dianara is not translated to your language and you’d like to have it, contributing a translation is quite easy!

Cheers!

Beta for Dianara 1.3.6

December 8, 2016

This will be a small release, with the following improvements:

  • HTTP redirections will be followed when loading images (Qt 5 only).
  • Duration of popup notifications is now configurable, and notifications can be set to be persistent.
  • Several input fields will show a button to clear them (Qt 5 only).
  • Added full Galician translation by EVAnaRkISTO.

Building with Qt 5.x is recommended. As you can see, a couple of the new things will only be there if Qt 5 is used.

You can clone it with git: https://gitlab.com/dianara/dianara-dev

If you maintain any of the translations, now is a good time to update them. Thanks!

Testing and feedback is, as always, welcome!

First beta for Dianara v1.3.0

March 10, 2015

Hi there! A few weeks ago I posted about Dianara-dev being usable again.

Now that some of the rough edges have been polished, it’s time for a beta.

dianara-v1.3.0beta1-shares

The main change since v1.2.5 has been the refactoring of the way the timelines are handled, which makes updates much faster. Also, the annoying “timeline goes to top on update” effect is mostly gone, though the timeline still moves around when updates are received, this needs fixing. The number of unread posts is not reset on each update. If you get more new posts than what you have configured to show in one page, you’ll be notified of how many more posts are pending to be received. The posts opened from the Meanwhile feed via the “+” button will now be able to load the comments much more often.

Other smaller enhancements are a few new options in the Configuration dialog, such as the options to highlight comments made by you, or comments made by the author of a post and to choose the size of avatars, or more obvious “frames” for shared posts.

There’s also an option to hide duplicated posts; that is, posts which were already visible in the timeline will not be shown again when someone shares them.

One new feature that is not visible is nickname completion, a.k.a. “mentioning”. If you type ‘@‘ while composing a post, you’ll get a list of the people you follow. You can then type the first characters of a name and use the arrows and enter keys to select the contact you wish to mention. When creating a note, this will add that contact to the “To” list, which means they’ll get your post in their “direct messages” inbox. This was possible before, using the “To” and “Cc” menus, but now it’s simpler.

Check the current CHANGELOG for a more detailed list of changes.

If you didn’t already use the development version of Dianara and wish to try it out, you can find it here: https://gitorious.org/dianara

If you prefer, here’s a source code tarball of this beta release:

The INSTALL file has instructions on how to build it and dependencies.

Feedback is welcome!

Cheers! o/

Polishing Dianara v1.2…

March 28, 2014

I’m putting some final touches on Dianara 1.2, since I’d like to release it soon. I’m still deciding if I release a beta, or drop some details for now, release a 1.2.0 version, and have 1.2.1, and other minor releases later.

Either way, Dianara coming soon 😉

P.S.- In other news, a fellow pumper managed to build Dianara for MSwindows. More on that later!

First beta version of Dianara v1.0

September 17, 2013

Hi!

I’ve just released a beta version of Dianara 1.0, Beta 1.

The 1.0 sounds pretty serious, so I’ve decided to have at least one beta version first, while I polish some stuff and complete some features which are only half-baked. It’s pretty stable and it certainly has a lot of interesting features over v0.9 (like post editing!)

Changes

Main changes since Dianara v0.9 include:

  • Post editing.
  • Ability to create person lists, delete them, and post to specific lists. *** (you can’t manage who is in which list yet)
  • Better posts resizing (no more splitters). *** (this might be slow in old computers!)
  • Optimize image sizes inside posts and comments. *** (needs more polish)
  • Avatar upload in profile editor *** (actual upload is not done yet)
  • Author’s avatar in posts is a button with several options.
  • Show if a post has been updated, and when.
  • Show “To” and “CC” recipients in posts as links.
  • Option to paste without formatting (as plain text).
  • Make proper links automatically when pasting a link-like text.
  • Option to quote comments. Selecting text in a post before clicking “Comment” also quotes it.
  • Regular notes can have titles, which helps a lot in the Meanwhile column.
  • Account wizard polishing.
  • Some more text formatting options.
  • And more!

You’ll find some menu options disabled. Some of them are disabled because the feature is incomplete at the moment.

Check the INSTALL file for details on how to build it.

Have fun!
